Women’s lacrosse differs significantly from men’s lacrosse. Most notably is this difference in the amount of equipment which is used and the degree of allowable physical contact.
Equipment
In women’s lacrosse the normal field players are required to wear a mouthguard and mostly also wear “goggles” (protection for the eyes).
The stick has compared to a men’s stick quite a flat pocket. It is also stringed differently. This makes it generally harder to catch the ball and keep it in the stick due to its flat construction.
The ball is the same like in men’s lacrosse. Roughly about 140-150 grams and about the size of a tennis ball.
(7.75 – 8 inches in circumference and weigh 5 – 5.25 ounces)
The goalkeeper must wear a helmet and padded gloves. Additionally she is usually also wearing additional protectors like one for the throat, a mouth piece, and chest protector.
